Podiatry is an allied health field concerned with the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the feet, ankles, and lower limbs. Podiatry uses a variety of techniques to help improve foot health and function and reduce/prevent further injuries and disease. Podiatrists have a good understanding of related chronic health conditions that affect the feet and lower limbs, such as diabetes. Podiatrists work independently in private practices, aged care residences and sports clinics, and also within multi-disciplinary teams in hospitals. Medical specialists, including GPs, may refer patients to a podiatrist as part of their health management.
