An exciting opportunity has become available for 2 (two) General Medicine Staff Specialist part time positions at Wollongong Hospital.
We are seeking an experienced Physician in General Medicine who will commit to the delivery of General Medicine Service provisions and development within the ISLHD.
The Staff Specialist will have the opportunity to work with a group of Physicians at Wollongong Hospital with specialty expertise in neurology, cardiology, respiratory medicine, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, rheumatology, endocrinology, renal medicine, medical oncology, radiation oncology and haematology.
The General Medicine department is a well organised department where the patients have been managed in both outpatient and inpatient settings. The department has AT, BPTs and JMOs to support our patients. The department has been expanding his services towards more special interest services or clinics such as perioperative service, complex patient clinic and metabolic clinic.
The position will be primarily located at Wollongong Hospital and may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services and as approved via the Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC) to other facilities in ISLHD.
In addition to providing a high level of care in general medicine, you will be expected to bring to the Department an area of expertise likely to enhance the breadth and depth of services available in the district. You will participate in Medical Grand Rounds and other duties as agreed with the Head of Department. All members of this Unit participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Advanced Trainees that are expected to receive FRACP within 6 months may be considered for this role and are encouraged to apply.

Selection Criteria:
- Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and demonstrated subspecialty training in General Medicine and/or equivalent specialist recognition.
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
- Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
- Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a Senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites.
- Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department.
