What you'll be doing

The Child and Adolescent Safety Paediatrician (CASP) is to provide clinical and strategic leadership to support holistic, child protection medical and forensic responses within the district.

This role is also responsible for developing systems, policies, and practices, in partnership with the broader workforce, to ensure optimal health and wellbeing outcomes for children experiencing sexual assault, physical abuse, neglect and/or domestic violence.

This role is expected to provide some direct clinical care to children and young people experiencing sexual assault, physical abuse, and neglect and/or domestic violence.

To provides a person-centered clinical consultancy service for individuals, carers, and other health care professionals within the districts speciality services to provide a people focused quality clinical consultancy service in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.


Selection Criteria

  1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Paediatrics with appropriate knowledge and clinical experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in child abuse and neglect including child sexual assault.
  2. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and with a wide range of stakeholders, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communications skills including use of information technology.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of and ability to respond appropriately to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and patients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement methodologies and experience in initiating and implementing changes to improve clinical service delivery and outcomes, models of care, evidence-based practice, and practice development.
  5. Demonstrated willingness and ability to lead and provide clinical supervision including the ability to provide education, vision and research would be viewed favourably.
  6. Ability to be available to consult regarding crisis presentations, including willingness to be involved in LHD roster for child sexual abuse.
  7. Current unrestricted drivers’ licence and willingness to travel as the role requires.
