About the role::
The Intensive Care Department are seeking a temporary Staff Specialist to join their team for 24 weeks covering leave within the department.

Position Requirements

  • Provision of specialist care to patients presenting to the Intensive Care Unit;

  • Provision of clinical services to patients designated as under your direct care, to outpatients and to patients you are asked to consult in Intensive Care Medicine;

  • Provision of interventions normally associated with the Intensive Care Unit;

  • Provision of Intensive Care Medicine consultation, supervision and education to specialist trainees, junior medical staff and undergraduates, including simulation-based teaching;

  • Participation in research and clinical governance duties;

  • Promotion of good patient care and the good reputation of the department and the hospital;

  • Participation in weekend and out-of-hours duty and an on-call roster for General and Cardiothoracic Intensive Care.

Selection Criteria:

  • Possess, or be eligible to possess, specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia (MBA)

  • Possess Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (FCICM) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialist’s State Award;

  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and high standards of clinical practice in Intensive Care Medicine commensurate to experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position
  • Possess experience at consultant level in the management of critically ill and post-operative patients with cardiopulmonary transplant, mechanical cardiac assist devices and extracorporeal life support, including inter-hospital transfer;

  • Experience in cannulation and initiation of extracorporeal life support, retrieval of patients on extracorporeal life support

  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching, with experience in low and high-fidelity simulation-based teaching and demonstrated ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary critical care based simulation sessions;

  • Demonstrated leadership skills that support and foster innovation to create a learning culture, with proven ability to improve the quality of services and patient care outcomes, including involvement in service development of critical care outreach.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patientsatisfaction and experience;

  • Demonstrated ongoing contribution to the development, dissemination, and translation of new knowledge and practices including active participation in the unit’s research programme commensurate with work in an academic teaching hospital environment;

  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries.
