About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic team, leading our approach to the provision of quality care to clients of the Operating Theatres. Our progressive and innovative team offers development opportunities for our staff and a caring environment for the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care.
The anaesthetic nurse plays a crucial role in the perioperative team, working alongside anaesthetists to ensure patient safety and comfort before, during, and after surgery.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Preoperative Responsibilities
- Patient Preparation: Assessing the patient’s medical history, allergies, and risk factors.
- Equipment Checks: Ensuring all anaesthesia equipment (e.g., ventilators, suction, monitoring devices) is functional.
- Medication Preparation: Drawing up and labelling anaesthetic drugs as per protocol.
- Patient Support: Providing reassurance and explaining the anaesthetic process to reduce anxiety.
2. Intraoperative Responsibilities
- Assisting the Anaesthetist: Handing over drugs, managing airway devices, and monitoring vital signs.
- Patient Monitoring: Observing the patient’s response to anaesthesia and assisting with interventions if needed.
- Emergency Management: Responding to complications such as anaphylaxis, airway obstruction, or cardiac arrest.
3. Postoperative Responsibilities
- Handover to Recovery Team: Providing details about anaesthesia used, intraoperative events, and any complications.
- Monitoring Recovery: Assisting with extubating and ensuring the patient is stable before transfer.
- Pain Management: Administering pain relief and observing for side effects.
The Successful Applicant Will Be Expected To:
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care in collaboration with individuals and the multidisciplinary health care team to achieve optimal health outcomes.
- Take a leadership role in coordinating nursing and health care, ensuring independent and interdependent practice.
- Demonstrate accountability and responsibility for their own actions and effectively delegate care to enrolled nurses and health care workers.
