Clinical Nurse Consultant/Specialist

The Registered Nurse (RN) at Capricornia Correctional Centre will work closely with the Clinical Nurses and the Capricornia Offender Health Service multidisciplinary team to provide nursing care for prisoners. This includes screening, assessment, planning, and education during incarceration and after release.

About us:

Capricornia Offender Health Service (COHS) is responsible for the delivery of health service to prisoners in the Capricornia Correctional Centre (CCC), Capricornia Correctional Farm (CCF) and prisoner workcamps.  COHS provides a health service to a fluctuating population of approximately 1100 male prisoners within CCC and CCF. The needs of this client group vary widely and COHS requires a flexible system that responds to urgent/non-urgent, complex, planned chronic care and preventative health needs.

Prisoners can access appropriate primary care and emergency care equivalent to standard of that of the general community. COHS currently operates from a primary health care model for service delivery with a multidisciplinary team from the time the prisoner enters the system, through transfers to other facilities, and to their release into the community.

About the role:

The Registered Nurse (RN) – Health and Wellbeing (H&W) position will work with the Clinical Nurses and the COHS Multidisciplinary team to screen, assess, plan and provide nursing care, treatment, support and education for the prisoner population of Capricornia Correctional Centre during incarceration and discharge back to the community.

The RN H&W will also in a collaboration with the Clinical Nurses will educate, promote health programs, and harm minimisation strategies to the whole prisoner community. The role in collaboration with Clinical Nurses will have a holistic approach including early identification and intervention, treatment and management of prisoners on the Opioid Dependence Treatment program, immunisation program support, therapeutic interventions with an identified focus on the health education.

About you:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a current annual practising certificate are mandatory for this position.
  • Demonstrate sound clinical evidence-based skill and knowledge in area of practice and setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to change.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate relevant, prompt and accurate information in all methods of communication. Including the use of information systems appropriate to the position.
  • Committed to the delivery of high-quality care and service.

What we offer:

  • An hourly rate between $51.33 - $65.84 p.h. (incl 25% casual loading)
