- Remuneration: $66.48-$68.28 per hour + superannuation + annual leave loading +salary packaging options
THE ROLE:
The Specialist Clinical Pharmacist at Calvary Mater Newcastle (CMN) holds a vital role in the delivery of advanced clinical pharmacy services within Medical Oncology. This position is responsible for the full range of pharmacy services associated with the Department of Medical Oncology. This will include a contribution to ensuring the management and efficient performance of the Cancer Services Pharmacy team.
DUTIES:
- Shares responsibility for the supervision of the preparation of reconstituted cytotoxic chemotherapy for inpatients and outpatients by unregistered pharmacy staff.
- Participates in the dispensing, preparation and reconstitution of cytotoxic chemotherapy for inpatients and outpatients as required.
- Provides advice on drug dosages, actions and interactions with special emphasis on cytotoxic and oncological therapy.
- Provides ward pharmacy services to Medical Oncology areas.
- Participates in clinical ward rounds with the Medical Oncology teams.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary meetings where patient care and progress is discussed.
- Shares responsibility for the training and validation of registered and unregistered pharmacy staff in cytotoxic reconstitution procedures.
- Able to routinely use the Calvary Mater Newcastle Hospital’s chemotherapy software in the provision of patient care.
- Preparedness to participate in the weekend on-call pharmacy roster.
- Reviews patients’ medication requirements, ensuring that they conform to hospital approved protocols, are appropriate, and that pharmacist recommendations and interventions are both recorded in the patients’ medical record and communicated to the appropriate staff.

ABOUT YOU:
- Eligible for registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to practice as a Pharmacist.
- A minimum of three years of practicing as a registered Hospital Pharmacist, with experience in medical oncology/haematology pharmacy.
- Demonstrated effective communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proven capacity to organise a complex workload with advanced leadership skills.
- Able to work proficiently in periods of high demand and activity.
- Demonstrated commitment to own personal and professional development.
