The Palliative Care Unit is a 13 bed unit and provides a patient / client / family-focused health service within a multi-disciplinary framework in the speciality areas of Palliative Care.

About the role

The Clinical Nurse is a registered nurse who is accountable for practice at an advanced level, working collaboratively within the unit and with other members of the health care team including consumers/carers, other health professionals, general practitioners and other agencies (including non-Government agencies). This role provides the delivery of clinical care and support specific to Palliative Care within an inpatient setting.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge in the area of Palliative Care delivering expert nursing care in complex situations while providing support and direction to other team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to support and lead quality improvement and research initiatives within the work unit, contributing to the use of evidence based practice to facilitate improved patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with members of the healthcare team, patients, relatives and visitors and maintain a positive workplace culture through well developed consultation, liaison, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in the multidisciplinary team to identify areas for improvement in work practices and outcomes and contribute to the continued improvement of policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate staff and manage delegated resources including prioritising needs and supporting day-to-day changes.
  • Demonstrated ability to role model excellent standards of comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care and documentation to facilitate quality patient outcomes, in accordance with National Safety and Quality Health Service and professional standards.
