About us:
Hunter Brain Injury Service (HBIS) is 1 of 15 state-wide specialist rehabilitation services for compensable and non-compensable adult clients who have experienced a traumatic brain injury.
Whilst the service is based in Bar Beach Newcastle, outpatient, outreach, and community residential care is provided to those who live in the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Lower & Upper Hunter, Port Stephens, Greater Taree, and Central Coast areas.
In addition to the above catchment areas, the 5-bed community residential transition living unit (TLU) also supports clients from other regional/rural areas (e.g., Port Macquarie/ Coffs Harbour, Forbes, etc) when they have a family member or significant other who lives in the catchment area as there are only 7 transition living units in the state. The facility is a stand-alone building, parking onsite, multiple counselling and interview spaces, large outdoor area including gardens, a courtyard and yarning circle.
