PURPOSE OF ROLE
The National Perinatal and Infant Mental Health - ForWhen Program is a transformative care and navigation phone service, connecting parents in the perinatal period with mental health supports and services in their area that best meet their needs.
This is a truly once in a lifetime opportunity to work with the National PIMH (ForWhen) Team engaged in the implementation and ongoing development of a new, exciting and highly impactful care navigation phone line service with a leading non-profit parenting support service provider and alongside experienced consortium members.

The team of Perinatal & Infant Mental Health (PIMH) place-based navigators are located in each State and Territory at an Australasian Association of Parenting and Child Health (AAPCH) organisation or other partner sites. Navigator’s triage and support families with information and referrals, using expansive local knowledge and subsequent location- specific support pathways. Navigators support a ‘no wrong door’ approach to service access and are inclusive and engaging of all families - particularly families who experience stigma and blame when they encounter the service system. They bring a child-centred and collaborative approach to working with families through strengths-based, trauma-informed and evidence-based approaches. Navigators work closely with referring agents, particularly health professionals to support families to gain access to required services. Navigators, while experts in their own State, support the service to operate nationally and work closely with all navigators across the country to connect families to primary/universal, secondary and tertiary PIMH services and the broader service system unique to each state and territory.
The Service will provide a national comprehensive, stepped continuum of care for parents particularly those experiencing moderate/severe PIMH concerns, supporting these families to navigate the complex and fragmented PIMH service landscape. This model uses well-articulated triage criteria to bring national consistency, whilst maintaining place-based flexibility in an ecosystem characterised by numerous providers and services nationally.
