The Child Protection Unit operates between 7:00 – 17:00 Monday to Friday. This service provides a single point of contact for child protection matters throughout the West Moreton HHS. This service compromises part of a multidisciplinary team that includes medical, nursing, and allied health staff.

About the role
The Clinical Nurse/Midwife – Child Protection Liaison Officer is a registered nurse or Dual Qualified Midwife who is responsible and accountable for quality and clinically effective nursing care at an advanced level in the field of child protection. The role of the Child Protection Liaison Officer is to provide a single point of contact for Child Protection matters.
Working collaboratively with all staff in the Child Protection Unit, multidisciplinary team, and partner agencies to achieve Child focused care and provide services to children and young people who have been harmed or who are at risk of harm.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge in Child Protection and delivery of expert nursing care in complex situations, while providing support and direction to other team members.
- Support front line staff in determining whether a suspicion of child abuse and neglect is reportable, through the provision of timely and relevant clinical advice.
- Ability to provide child and family centred care and advocacy to consumers using best practice and within the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse/or Registered Nurse/Midwife.
- Contribution to the development and delivery of educational activities that enhance personal knowledge and support other staff around child protection issues.
- Participation in patient centred initiatives including liaison with the multi-disciplinary team, external agencies (e.g. Department of Child Safety, Seniors and Disability services (DCSSCS) and parents, and planning timely discharge and follow up, based on an agreed clinical management plan and any relevant child protection orders.
- Demonstrate advanced communicate skills and professional report-writing skills, using critical judgement of information relevant for child protection purposes. Forge productive dialogue to develop effective working relationships with members of the healthcare team, external agencies, patients, relatives, and visitors whilst displaying a high level of customer service.
