About the opportunity


We are looking for various VMO psychiatrists to join on non roster contracts to provide cover for leave gaps or vacancies. The position will be a mix of inpatient and community and across the Western NSW Local Health District. You’ll work with an experienced and committed multidisciplinary team who know the services well. You’ll supervise care as a clinical leader, and be part of strong relationships we have with community oriented service providers. There is good professional support with the diverse psychiatry group working in the region’s Mental Health Drug & Alcohol Services.

The position sits within the Mental Health Drug & Alcohol Services at Bloomfield Hospital in Orange, a regional hub in the Western NSW Local Health District but can provide services in our Dubbo and Bathurst hubs. There is multidisciplinary involvement in each unit and an experienced and broadly skilled nursing and allied health workforce at Bloomfield, and strong links with the community MH teams in Orange and throughout the District contributes to good integration and continuity of care for those using the service.

Where you'll be working

Based within the Mental Health Drug & Alcohol Services at Bloomfield Hospital in Orange but services Dubbo and Bathurst regional hubs as well. Our Services are a critical part of the healthcare delivered in our local communities. We are at the forefront in the delivery of services to rural and remote populations across a catchment area of 400,000 square kms.

Close working relationships have formed with several non-government organisations to support psychosocial and residential needs of consumers.

1. Evidence of being a MEDICAL EXPERT, including medical degree (registerable/registered) with the Medical Board of Australia, Fellowship of the RANZCP or equivalent; experience and competence in relevant areas of psychiatry including forensics for the relevant age group(s) and treatment settings (inpatient/outpatient/community).

2. Evidence of being a good COMMUNICATOR, including having appropriate skills in verbal and written communication and the use of computer and telemedicine technology. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.

3. Evidence of being a COLLABORATOR in working with patients, families, multidisciplinary teams, medical colleagues, other health professionals, and relevant government and non-government agencies.

4. Evidence of being a MANAGER, including leading multidisciplinary teams and supervising the clinical work of a team, and in performing required management and administrative tasks; able to work within clinical governance structures and participate in efforts for clinical quality improvement.

5. Evidence of being an ADVOCATE for patients, families and carers, and of applying the principles of illness prevention and health promotion in your work.

6. Evidence of being a SCHOLAR, including commitment to continuing medical education and professional development, being a mentor to junior colleagues, and educating other health professionals, students, patients and their families.

7. Evidence of being a PROFESSIONAL, including adhering to ethical conduct and practice, complying with relevant policies and guidelines, and behaving at all times with integrity, honesty, compassion and respect for others.

8. Hold a driver licence valid in NSW and be prepared to travel as a requirement of the position.
