Total indicative renumeration package: $318,526 - $419,706 (pro rata) before shift penalities and professional development allowances.

About the role:

Reporting to theFMC ED Head of Unit and the Paediatric Emergency Clinical Lead,you will play a pivotal role in providing exceptional care to our youngest patients during their most critical moments. Our Paediatric ED (PED) is co-located with the FMC general ED but largely operates within its own dedicated clinical space (newly opened in 2021) which now includes its own Paediatric Short Stay (commissioned in 2024). The FMC ED and PED operate a hybrid dedicated and integrated medical and nursing staffing model, and also operate a shared Resuscitation area. We areaccredited by the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) for Advanced Training in PEM, and see 16-18,000 children per year with a high proportion of seriously unwell and injured children. The FMC PED additionally delivers a weekly dedicated Paediatric Emergency Education Program for trainees and resident medical officers.

Duties of the role include:

  • Clinical management of paediatric patients presenting to the FMC Paediatric Emergency Department (PED).
  • Clinical oversight and responsibilty for the delivery of clinical care in the PED.
  • Supervision of junior medical officers in the PED.
  • Actively involvement in the education and training of junior medical officers, medical students, nursing and allied health.
  • Participation inclinical improvement initiatives and projects, quality/safety/clinical risk management activities and continuous medical education.

About you:

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent. Appropriate Specialist Qualifications (FACEM PEM or FRACP PEM) and registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration;
  • APLS Instructor status (preferred)
  • Demonstrated high standard of clinical practice in Paediatric Emergency Medicine
  • Demonstrated professional integrity, leadership and motivational skills.
