You are invited to join a dynamic team with Cassowary Hub Maternity, Midwifery Group Practice, Rural and Remote Services as a Clinical Midwife (Caseload). Rural and Remote Services comprise rural health services located at Tully, Innisfail, Babinda, Yarrabah, Atherton, Mareeba and Mossman, and remote primary health services at located at Cow Bay, Dimbulah, Chillagoe, Forsayth, Georgetown and Croydon. Innisfail is the southern section of Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS), 88km south of Cairns and approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes by road. The Cassowary Hub boundaries for maternity services extend from Kennedy in the South of Deeral in the North. Innisfail Hospital is the largest hospital within Cassowary Hub which encompasses both Babinda Multipurpose Health Service and Tully Hospital.

About your opportunity:

In this position you will provide an early leadership role within the career pathway for nursing within the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service and is responsible for a specific patient population and operates in more complex situations while providing support and direction to the Registered Midwife (RM) and other non-registered nursing personnel. The role of the Clinical Midwife Caseload is to provide culturally sensitive, individualised and evidence-based continuity of care for all women across the childbearing continuum in the Cassowary Hub, through the provision of an “all risk” Midwifery Group Practice. This midwifery model of care utilises an integrated, collaborative and multidisciplinary approach to achieve positive outcomes for women and their newborns and families.

About your role:

  • Promote cooperation, teamwork and understanding in undertaking generalist and/or specialist midwifery practices for effective health outcomes.
  • Use effective communication skills to influence and convince others in a mature, confident manner to achieve positive client outcomes, including providing informant and/or advice on clinical issues within the RM scope of practice.
  • Maintain sound knowledge of relevant legislation, guideline and standards specifically relating to midwifery practice and ensure safe, appropriate application of same.
  • Provide leadership to effectively plan, manage and evaluate patient care activities at an advanced practitioner level within the specified clinical setting and promote patient flow in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Undertake quality improvement and evidence-based practice activities to ensure the provision of quality, cost-effective patient care.
  • Assist the Midwifery Unit Manager to apply contemporary human resource management principles to ensure that the unit working environment meets legislative standards and CHHHS policies and procedures.
