The Australian National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) has an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Medical Officer with extensive experience to join our global health team, supporting the strengthening of immunisation programs in the Indo-Pacific Region. Key areas of work include supporting countries in their immunisation policy decision-making, program implementation, vaccine safety surveillance and activities related to gathering evidence to evaluate and inform immunisation programs. The role is based in Sydney with opportunities to work in various Indo-Pacific countries for up to approximately 20% of the time and involves program oversight including managing a team of global health technical officers. The successful applicant will work in a dynamic team, engaged across both national and regional immunisation and vaccine preventable disease control priorities, with an overall health-system strengthening lens.

- Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist in Public Health, Infectious Diseases or Similar (e.g. FAFPHM, FRACP or equivalent), and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
- Demonstrated experience with the use of biomedical literature and relevant bibliographic databases (e.g. Medline), familiarity with methods of systematic literature review and framework for evidence-informed development of clinical practice guidelines and/or population health policies or population health policies (e.g. GRADE), and skills in the use of relevant computer packages including Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) and EndNote (or equivalent).
- Qualifications and/or previous experience in one or more of the following areas: conduct of clinical trial processes and methods, including ethics applications; clinical paediatrics/internal medicine and/or infectious diseases/microbiology; post graduate research in paediatric or internal medicine, epidemiology or public health, clinical epidemiology, systematic literature reviews and evidence synthesis, clinical guidelines development.
- Demonstrated understanding of issues relevant to immunisation policy and practice at local, state, national and global level, and experience working in or understanding of the Australian health care system, particularly clinical and population/public health services, including those related to immunisation.
- Demonstrated ongoing commitment to teaching, continuing education, research, and quality improvement. With understanding of research methodology or research experience and a willingness to preparer research proposals and undertake research and demonstrated knowledge or experience in analysis or interpretation of epidemiological data.
- Demonstrated clinical skills (for those positions with a clinical role), knowledge, and direct experience in clinical and/or public health communicable disease (especially vaccine preventable disease) control and immunisation.
- Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills. Scientific writing skills is required.
- Understanding of research methodology or research experience and a willingness to prepare research proposals and undertake research and demonstrated knowledge or experience in analysis or interpretation of epidemiological data.
