The Repat Neuro-Behavioural Unit (RNBU) at Daw Park's Repat Health Precinct, managed by the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SALHN) Older Persons Mental Health Service, offers specialised care for 18 individuals with severe dementia-related behaviours. These unique needs necessitate a non-mainstream approach, with the primary goal of transitioning residents to long-term care through a holistic, person-centred journey. About the role:
As a Registered Nurse within the Repat Neuro-Behavioural Unit, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality, compassionate, relationship-centred care to highly vulnerable patients living with dementia. Our care model places the person at the centre of individualised care, emphasising strong engagement with carers and loved ones both upon entry into the Unit and throughout the consumer's journey.
Some of your duties may involve:
- Providing caring and compassionate nursing services to consumers living with very severe and extreme behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) (Broadly tier 7).
- Working within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care in a holistic and respectful manner.
- Ensuring that care is provided in a way that is respectful of, and responsive to, the preferences, needs, and values of patients and their caregivers.
- Developing positive relationships with patients and their loved ones.
- Applying a holistic approach to assessment and care.
- Must be able to meet the requirements of a 24/7 rotating roster.
About you:
- Registered as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds a current practicing certificate.
- Demonstrated competence in mental health nursing practice in accordance with the relevant standards.
- Demonstrated commitment to high quality, compassionate, relationship-centred care to consumers living with dementia who experience associated behavioural and psychological symptoms at very severe to extreme levels.
- Experience in working with older persons and consumers living with dementia.
