Position: Assistant in Nursing
Vacancy: Permanent Part-time, hours negotiable (Multiple positions available)
Location: Central Sterilising Department, Townsville University Hospital

Pro rata remuneration package based on full-time equivalent value of up to $83,901 p.a.
- Salary range: $35.92 - $36.97 p.h. p.a. (Nurse Grade 1, Band 2)
- 4 to 6 weeks annual leave with 14%-17.5% loading

About the role
Townsville University Hospital (TUH) Central Sterilising Department (CSD) provides decontamination and sterilisation of instruments and trays used within the Operating Theatres, wards/hospital departments, and external clients. CSD also supports other CSDs within the Townsville Hospital and Health Service. TUH CSD staff train and assess CSD staff at the Ayr, Charters Towers and Ingham hospitals.
The Assistant in Nursing (AIN) works under the supervision and direction of the Registered Nurse who acts in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia's decision-making framework. The AIN assists and provides nursing support to the Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses and provides care for patients and families.
Role requirements
- Qualification for Central Sterilising Department: Successful completion of Certificate III in Sterilisation Services from an approved training organisation based on nationally accredited competencies or equivalent. If qualification has not been completed, the successful applicant will have 12 months to complete the course as a condition of their employment and be appointed at the Nurse Grade 1, Band 1 classification until successful completion of the qualification has been obtained.
- Shift workers: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster.
