Emergency Medicine - Senior Resident Medical Officer - Liverpool Hospital, SWSLHD
About The Opportunity
Liverpool Hospital is recruiting for an Senior Resident Medical Officer to complement and enhance the current Emergency Medicine Department.
At Liverpool Hospital we have a young, friendly, dynamic group of emergency physicians with a keen interest in trainee teaching and training.We are strongly committed to training and provide a paid protected day of trainee teaching per fortnight.Each trainee has access to an education fund to the value of $2500 annually to spend on approved courses such as APLS, EMST and Ultrasound Training or towards the college trainee research project (TRP) requirement.

- UpskillED - full day workshop aimed at the Junior ED and Clinical Care Trainees
- Paediatric Advanced Life Support training days lead by our six APLS instructors
- Five Paid Simulation Days covering ITIM trauma team training, paediatric, medical, obstetric, and toxicological emergencies at the Ingham Simulation Centre at Liverpool.
- Trainees have the opportunity to write scenarios and participate as faculty for these courses
- In-house Ultrasound training days and shop floor supervision. All trainees that commit to 2 years at Liverpool Hospital will become FAST and AAA accredited.
Liverpool Hospital is fully accredited for advanced training by The Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM).Liverpool Hospital is a tertiary referral and trauma centre in the South-West of Sydney with an annual census of 85,000 patients. Liverpool is the busiest Emergency department in NSW with an interesting and challenging case mix of adult and paediatric patients and an admission rate of > 40%.
Liverpool has a strong record in both primary and fellowship exams with several fellowship prize winners in the past. There are three ACEM examiners dedicated to helping trainees prepare for the primary and fellowship exams. We have co-ordinated primary and fellowship exam preparation programmes.
Rotations available includeAnaesthetics,ICU, Paediatric Emergency Medicine (at Campbelltown,Liverpool and Westmead Children’s Hospitals), and Retrieval Medicine. Urban district time can be spent at Bankstown and Campbelltown Hospitals.Rural rotations to Dubbo Base Hospital and Alice Springs can also be arranged. We have a 6/12 ultrasound special skills term and a 1-year ED administration special skills term accredited by ACEM available to advanced trainees.
Emergency Physicians provide extended hours cover over 7 days a week with excellent opportunities for supervised training in a challenging and busy department.
Full-time ED medical staff work 4 ten-hour shifts a week with good flexibility within the roster.
Where You'll Be Working
Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.
The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.
Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.
Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the University of NSW and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.

What you'll be doing
To provide emergency medical care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department. This will involve the workup and assessment of patients and the undertaking of an initial management plan.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Completion of at least two postgraduate years and working towards membership of ACEM.
- A minimum of 6 months experience in an Australian Emergency Department or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and demonstrated good organizational and time management skills.
- Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self-education.
- Ability and willingness to work at the facilities within the Network to deliver patient care and preparedness and ability to participate in a 24 hour shift work roster.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
