The Medical Oncology Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 2 is an expert nursing practitioner who works as part of a team to provide assessment, consultancy, care planning and education to patients their families and carers.

What you'll be doing

Working collaboratively with the Medical Oncology Staff Specialists and other nurses across the NSLHD, the CNC will provide a consultancy service for patients with newly diagnosed oncologic malignancy and their ongoing active and supportive treatments.


The Medical Oncology CNC will actively participate in the multidisciplinary teams and will be involved in care planning; coordinating patients care; transfer to outpatient units and links to community key providers. The Medical Oncology CNC must fulfil the five domains of clinical nurse consultancy as outlined in the Functional/Operational/Clinical position requirements.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Registered with Authority to Practice with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Minimum five years full time post graduate experience with 3 years full time equivalent in the specialty field. In addition the applicant must have an approved post graduate qualification (minimum Grad Diploma/Certificate level) or evidence of working towards Masters level qualification.
  2. Demonstrated clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
  3. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills across a variety of mediums and an understanding of the practice development framework.
  4. Demonstrated ability to undertake quality improvement and research activities that influence and enhance clinical practice and implement change.
  5. Demonstrated computer skills with experience using MS Office programs and electronic filing systems.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a member of a multidisciplinary team and independently.
