War Memorial Hospital (WMH) is a 3rd Schedule Aged Rehabilitation hospital, situated in Waverley, owned and operated by Uniting and part of the Southeastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). Services are comprised of 24-hour inpatient care, Monday to Friday outpatient departments, iREAP Day Rehabilitation program, several specialist community teams inclusive of Transitional Aged Care, Aged Care Assessment Team, Geriatric Flying Squad, Young Onset Dementia, and day centre program, 24-hour accommodation service for regional guests and the full range of hospital support services. It is set within beautiful tranquil grounds and is a well-supported team environment.

War Memorial Hospital is inviting applications from suitably qualified Geriatricians to join its multidisciplinary team to provide specialist consultant duties across a range of services.

The successful applicant will be involved in providing sub-acute inpatient aged rehabilitation care and participate in supporting the outreach Geriatric Flying Squad and iREAP (Day Rehabilitation) service and the driving assessment clinic.

There will be an expectation to participate in the many educational activities of the hospital. The appointee may also be offered a conjoint appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales at a level commensurate with knowledge and experience. The conjoint appointment may only be held during the tenure of the hospital appointment and no remuneration is attached to the University appointment.

There is a requirement for active involvement in clinical teaching, Morbidity & Mortality meetings, Quality Improvement initiatives, on-call and administrative duties as well as the potential for development of research activities and membership of other committees as required.

This 0.3FTE position is a permanent part time role. Days are negotiable

Selection Criteria:

1. Specialist qualifications in Geriatric or Rehabilitation Medicine (FRACP or FAFRM) and/or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award

2. Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

3. Recent clinical experience in community care, acute care & rehabilitation of older people

4. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and to understand and manage the individual needs of elderly rehabilitation patients and their carers

5. Previous demonstrable commitment to teaching, research and service planning

6. Proficiency in use of IT, electronic healthcare records and databases

7. Previous demonstrable experience in quality improvement and healthcare accreditation processes

8. Advanced verbal and written communication skills encompassing patients, carers and healthcare colleagues

All Category A NSW Health workers are required to have received an annual seasonal Influenza vaccination or have an approved medical contraindication certificate. COVID-19 vaccinations are strongly recommended for all NSW Health workers.
