About us:
Capricornia Offender Health Service (COHS) is responsible for the delivery of health service to Prisoner in the Capricornia Correctional Centre (CCC) and Capricornia Correctional Farm (CCF) including workcamps. COHS provides a health service to a fluctuating population of approximately 1200 male prisoners within CCC and CCF. The CCC receives and transitions prisoners on release from and to geographical locations north to Mackay; south to Gladstone, east to Capricorn Coast; and west to Central Highlands.
COHS provides clinical services within the correctional centre, which is unique to other clinical services, in that, COHS provides services within a structured day and security function of a correctional centre. Therefore, limitations exist in how healthcare service are provided and the timeframe for which this can occur given the safety and security function within the correctional centre.
About the role:
The Senior Medical Officer position provides effective, efficient, and equitable medical services to prisoner clients of the Capricornia Offender Health Service (COHS). The Senior Medical Officer will work collaboratively with other medical officers and multidisciplinary teams to provide health care services to Prisoners.
About you:
- MBBS or equivalent eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency.
- Current registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a current annual practising certificate are mandatory for this position.
- Registration or eligibility for registration in General Practice (FRACGP or FACRRM) is highly desirable. Qualifications will determine appointment levels:
- L13 – L14 (Medical Officer without FRACGP/FACRRM);
- L13 – L18 (FRACGP / FACRRM),
- L18 – L25 (Advanced Credentialed Practice).
- Advanced Life Support competency current or attained on employment.
- A demonstrated practice scope in, or completion of, or willingness to complete Opioid Substitution Treatment and Hep C prescriber course/s will be highly regarded.

Total remuneration value of up to $458,562 p.a. is comprised of:
- A salary rate between $182,106 - $187,801 p.a. (L13-L14)
- A salary rate between $182,106 - $210,332 p.a. (L13-L18)
- A salary rate between $210,332 - $521,527 p.a. (L18-L25)
- 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
- 17.5% leave loading
