The Role

The primary purpose of the Registered Nurse Mental Health is the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of specialist mental health nursing care for patients with mental disorders. The position holder will work within Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network (JHFMHN) and Ministry of Health policies, procedures and guidelines as well as Corrective Services NSW rules and regulations as set out in the relevant legislation.

Essential Requirements:

Current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

Our Service and Team

Custodial Mental Health (CMH) is a specialist mental health service within the Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network that provides a range of mental health services to adults in NSW correctional centres.

CMH includes a specialist mental health team with mental health nurses (MHNs), nurse practitioners (NPs), Aboriginal Mental Health Clinicians, psychiatrists, career medical officers (CMOs), and psychiatry registrars who are supported by administrative and managerial staff.

CMH clinicians work alongside staff from other clinical streams and CSNSW staff, including Psychology, Offender Services and Programs, and Custodial Operations staff in the provision of mental health services. Mental health services begin at the point of reception and continue through to release from custody or transfer to another correctional centre.

Our Location

The Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre (MRRC) and the Silverwater Women’s Correctional Centre (SWCC)are maximum-security correctional facilities for inmates located in the Silverwater Correctional Complex. The facilities receive significant proportion of all new receptions into the correctional system. Inmates:

·Come directly from court on remand.

·Stay while they attend court in the Sydney Metropolitan area.

·Stay while they wait for a vacancy at a correctional centre matching their classification.

You will be involved in a multi-disciplinary team of medical and nursing professionals that comprehensively assess, treat, and manage individuals with mental illness.

Your salary $72152.53 - $101,299.48 per annum (pro-rata for part time) plus superannuation and leave loading is just the beginning.
