This is a maternity relief position and should the permanent incumbent require an early return from maternity leave, this contract of employment will cease with two weeks’ notice. Maternity relief positions can be for a period of up to 12 months, with the possibility of continued employment for up to a further 12 months for maternity leave reduced hours, therefore there are no claims to permanency.

The Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) is seeking a passionate and committed individual to fill a temporary full-time Social Worker position at our welcoming and supportive Community Allied Health Centre.


About You

  • Degree in Social Work from an accredited course providing eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers and hold current driver’s licence (overseas qualifications must supply the AASW Overseas Assessment number).
  • Demonstrated clinical skills within community based social work teams and multidisciplinary teams, and demonstrated understanding of the current AASW Practice Standards as they relate to the position.
  • Demonstrated application of extensive clinical experience in broad and diverse psychosocial assessment, interventions, care planning, individual and family counselling, grief, loss and bereavement counselling and group work, across a diverse and broad range of diagnoses and conditions, particularly those approaching or reaching the end of their life, within the community setting.

Where You’ll Be Working

This role is part of the social work team within CAH but has an identified area of specialty skills and knowledge in the area of Palliative Care. This role will be responsible for working collaboratively with senior Social Work, in developing and enhancing the service provided by CAH social workers and other staff, to patients with complex needs who are approaching or reaching the end of their life. It will work collaboratively with relevant CCLHD and external teams and services to ensure effective and integrated care is provided, which may include hospital liaison, case conferences, education and direct clinical support of staff involved in care provision.
