Provide clinical care under supervision (both direct and indirect) and acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfy relevant specialist college and medical board requirements needed to practice as a specialist.

About the role

To provide clinical care under supervision (both direct and indirect) and acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfy relevant specialist college and medical board requirements needed to practice as a specialist. This position will cover public OPD and theatre time and assist with our huge demand for ophthalmic care within the catchment area for the Metro North Health Service at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and affiliated facilities. This role will also be responsible for carrying out audits required for the department of Ophthalmology.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following within the context of the “key accountabilities” found in the role description:

  • To develop clinical efficiency through patient management and pathways.
  • Improve autonomous operating ability.

To be involved in educational and supervisory services to the junior ophthalmology registrars, residents as well as medical students.

  • Maintain the process of clinical cataract audit.
  • Participate in the Ophthalmology Outpatient clinics at RBWH and associated facilities to help manage new and review OPD patient appointments as well as post-ops.
  • Undertake independent surgery as required.
  • Assist in the training of the Ophthalmology Registrars.
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • Completed RANZCO Registrar training or equivalent.
  • Appointment to the Senior Registrar classification requires specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
