· Energetic nightlife, world-class restaurants and an abundance of cultural and leisure activities

· Experience the East and West Coasts of New Zealand (Aotearoa) within a short drive; hike in the Hunua or Waitakere Ranges; enjoy the varied leisure pursuits afforded by the Hauraki gulf and its many islands

· You will have the opportunity to work alongside our passionate and knowledgeable senior Clinicians.

· Each of the hospitals provides a supportive environment with regards to teaching and education, including journal clubs, tutorials, case-based teaching, X-Ray conferences, grand rounds and community teaching

· Our rosters provide structured days off for improved work life balance and the ability to spend time with friends, family and enjoy all that New Zealand has to offer.

· With a population of over 1.3 million, Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand. The region comprises the largest centre for Paediatrics, providing care to children from throughout New Zealand and also a small number of children from the neighbouring Pacific Islands. Auckland has a broad-ranging socioeconomic landscape and trainees are exposed to a wide variety of disease presentations and diverse cultures and ethnicities.

Basic and Advanced Training Opportunities Available

During your first 2-3 years as a basic trainee working in the Auckland Region you will be able to develop your skills while allocated to general paediatrics, paediatric emergency and NICU rotations as well as some sub specialty exposure (haematology/oncology, immunology/infectious diseases, cardiology, respiratory, neurology, renal, gastroenterology, endocrinology).

Advanced trainees working in the Auckland region are provided with the opportunity to work in Level 3 NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit), Te Puaruruhau (Child Protection/Abuse), Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Child Emergency Department, Consult Liaison, Paediatric Rehabilitation and various medical subspecialties.

All of the jobs offered in our training hospitals can be accredited towards your basic and advanced training in Paediatrics with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP). Our training programme also provides trainees with the potential opportunity to work in Whangarei and/or Tauranga. These runs are ideal for completing rural training requirements in Advanced Training in General Paediatrics. Enquiries about the Whangarei rotation can be directed to the RMO unit at the Northland District. Email: [email protected], though applications for the training scheme will still need to be submitted via the Auckland Paediatric training scheme in the first instance.
