Working as a Respiratory Advanced Trainee

Respiratory and sleep medicine is a subspecialty of internal medicine, encompassing diseases of the respiratory system, including the upper airway, the lungs, the chest wall and the ventilatory control system. It incorporates knowledge of normal and disordered respiratory structure and function, clinical respiratory diseases and specialised diagnostic techniques, tests and procedures. There is a separate position available in the Auckland region that meets criteria for sleep training.

Medicine Registrar Runs

Medicine Registrar runs in the Auckland region are six months in length, following which you may rotate into a different run. There are three types of jobs available:

Advanced Training in Respiratory

· You will need to have passed the FRACP written exam or be registered to sit the clinical exam for 2024.

· These positions will only be offered to those who have passed the clinical exam and completed basic training. For those completing the exam later this year and should you not pass the exam, you will no longer be eligible for advanced training position and you may be considered for a run allocation.

· Eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Support and assistance with this process is provided.

Six month allocations for those interested in Respiratory Medicine experience or those needing a Category A run as part of their training in General Medicine or specialty training:

· Must be registered in training with RACP either as a Basic Trainee or Advanced Trainee.

· Eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Support and assistance with this process is provided.

Applying for 12 month run in Sleep Training

· Must be eligible for advanced training with RACP.

· Eligible for Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Support and assistance with this process is provided.

Important: If you are a current Respiratory trainee wanting to apply for a 12 months rotation in Sleep Medicine then you will need to apply for this rotation.

If you are already an advanced trainee in Respiratory plus a current employee in the Auckland region, you do not need to apply via this job listing. You will have independent meetings with your specialty.
