The NSW Child Health Clinical Nurse Consultant, Grade 2, is a Registered Nurse who has responsibility for the development of sustainable paediatric clinical networks within the NSW Child Health Networks and other key stakeholders. It is a part-time (16 hours per week), temporary, position for 12 months. The CNC assists in enhancing the long term health outcomes of children within the Local Health District of South Eastern Sydney and the St Vincent Hospital, Darlinghurst by promoting and facilitating the delivery of high quality child health and paediatric services, participating in education and research initiatives, and providing clinical leadership and nursing consultancy services. The CNC also participates in the development of Network and District wide paediatric service planning, implementation of relevant NSW Health policies and strategic directions, and the development and coordination of professional education strategies for acute care and primary health care nursing staff.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.
  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse/Midwife, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and current NSW Drivers License (if required by service).
  2. Minimum five years full time equivalent post qualification experience, with at least three years full time equivalent experience in the emergency and paediatric fields and post graduate qualifications relevant to emergency and paediatric specialties.
  3. Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
  4. Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums and knowledge of the practice development framework to clinical practice.
  5. Proven ability to implement change and develop direction in clinical practice by the utilisation of evidence based research.
  6. Demonstrated skills in strategic and clinical service planning including an understanding of organisational behaviour, change management and cultural change processes.
  7. Demonstrated skills in clinical teaching, competency in the use of contemporary information systems and experience in the development of specialty education programs.
  8. Demonstrated clinical expertise in client-centred consultancy with the ability to work independently.
