About the role:
The St Vincent’s Department of Pain Medicine is a committed to provide comprehensive pain medicine service to people within the Hospital and greater community.

The Department provides inpatient care for acute and chronic pain, a consultation service, outpatient pain management courses, online pain management courses, skype consultations and outpatient clinics. It is staffed by fractionated appointments of, 2 Anaesthetists, 2 Rehabilitation physicians, 2 Psychiatrists, 2 Physiotherapists, a Psychologist, a Post Doc Senior Researcher and a full time chronic pain CNC. It has close links with the Departments of Anaesthesia, Rehabilitation medicine and Palliative care and trains Pain Medicine fellows, Anaesthetic registrars and Rehabilitation registrars.

We are seeking applications for a Visiting Medical Officer to join the department for the care of privately referred non-inpatients. Duties include:

  • Participate in consultation, outpatient, care and teaching duties
  • Provide General Pain Medicine outpatient services - outpatient services include public outpatients plus privately-referred non-inpatients under a Standard Licence Agreement (in accordance with NSW Health Guideline GL2009_008)
  • Provide advice on general medical conditions and/or conditions associated with disability that form part of many presentations to the chronic pain clinic including rheumatological conditions, neurological conditions, transplant medicine, immunology, neurology and musculoskeletal disease and injury.
  • We have a Friday clinic and are offering 2 sessions on that day.

Selection Criteria:

  • Possess, or be eligible to possess, specialist registration with AHPRA.
  • Possess Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FFPMANZCA) and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), or it’s faculties or chapters or equivalent, with specialist training in Pain Medicine;
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and high standards of clinical practice in Pain medicine commensurate with experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position;
  • Experience and expertise in Pain Medicine in a teaching hospital environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills that support and foster innovation to create a learning culture, with proven ability to improve the quality of services and patient care outcomes;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience;
  • Demonstrated ongoing contribution to the development, dissemination, and translation of new knowledge and practices commensurate with work in an academic teaching hospital environment;
  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries.
