About the Role:


The Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine (DRSM) provides both inpatient and outpatient services to the ACT and surrounding region. The department manages approximately 1,300 in-patient admissions annually. The department receives around 2,000 referrals per year for outpatient medical clinics. Our service includes the full range of care including respiratory and sleep diagnostic investigations and therapeutic interventions, interventional bronchoscopy (including EBUS) and specialised services for sleep disorders, TB, cystic fibrosis, severe asthma, interstitial lung disease and respiratory infections.

It is expected that approximately 80% of the staff specialist’s time will be focused on their substantive clinical service delivery role, and approximately 20% to non-clinical duties.

The position holder is expected to operate within the Public Sector Management Act (1994), the ACT Public Service Code of Conduct and the professional requirements specified by the appointee’s Specialist College.

This position offers an option of a permanent or temporary contract.

Duties:

Under limited direction of the DRSM Unit Director you will provide clinical services to clients and participate in the clinics and on-call rosters for the DRSM service. You will:

1. Management of patients referred to the outpatient clinics, including timely triaging, consultation, diagnosis, reporting and treatment of respiratory and sleep conditions
2. Respiratory Function and Sleep Assessment reporting, and involvement with testing when indicated. The role also includes provision of support to the allied health team for timely triaging of Respiratory Function Assessment requests both inpatient and outpatient services.
3. Contributing to direct DRSM inpatient care, patient consultation requests from other units and timely ward rounds to ensure patient management is safe, optimal and expedited.
4. Contribute to bronchoscopy services per operational requirements (if selected candidate is chosen for this operational requirement).
5. Assist the DRSM Unit Director to ensure appropriate clinical governance mechanisms are in place for the Department.
6. Actively engage in quality and safety activities, service redesign, and model of care development (including sub-speciality services) for the Department and the Division
7. Contribute to teaching and training of the clinical team, and clinical research within the DRSM.
8. Undertaking other duties as directed, within the approved scope of clinical practice ensuring the delivery of high quality person and family centred, safe and high quality patient care
