About the Opportunity
A vacancy exists at the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit (BIRU) for a highly motivated Occupational Therapist with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team.

This position provides leadership to the inpatient Occupational Therapy team of the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit, providing supervision, leading service development and research and innovation. Clinically, the Occupational Therapist will be responsible for providing assessment, therapy, equipment prescription and discharge planning for the needs of people with traumatic brain injury.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with the cognitive, physical and behavioural sequelae of traumatic and acquired brain injury
  • Knowledge and/or experience in working with insurance schemes such as the National Disability Insurance Scheme, Lifetime Care and Support and Worker’s Care.

What You'll be Doing
The position is responsible for leading, guiding and managing the delivery of occupational therapy services to the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit.

As a senior clinician the occupational therapist is responsible for overseeing and providing an efficient and effective occupational therapy service, through the application of high level clinical expertise and knowledge in the management of adult patients with brain injury.

The position requires a high level of clinical skill, leadership and supervision expertise. It requires the incumbent to be highly skilled in occupational therapy, with a well-developed knowledge of the roles of different disciplines within the multidisciplinary team; to have the ability to make critical clinical and administrative decisions independently and as part of the team; and to be well informed and dynamic in service planning, development and education to ensure best practice in occupational therapy.

Core responsibilities of this position include: coordination and implementation of quality occupational therapy services to patients including assessment, treatment and discharge planning; organisation and implementation of supervision and support processes to occupational therapists and technical assistants; consultation to therapists within South Western Sydney Local Health District, and other services state wide regarding the management of patients with brain injury; organisation and coordination of team based service development, quality improvement and best practice development; human resource management including recruitment, coordination of leave and courses.

How to Apply
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria as thoroughly as possible.

  1. Recognised Degree in Occupational Therapy or other qualification deemed appropriate by the employer, with registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  2. Demonstrated highlevel clinical expertise and knowledge of a wide range of clinical conditions in Neurological rehabilitation.
  3. Demonstrated experience leading quality improvement processes and involvement in service evaluation and development
  4. Demonstrated experience implementing evidence into practice and knowledge and/or experience in research
  5. Excellent time management skills and an ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  6. Demonstrated experience in the management, clinical supervision and mentoring of staff and/or students
  7. Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to effectively adapt to ongoing change to achieve health service outcomes
  8. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills including interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills and computer literacy in a range of programs
  9. Must possess a valid Australian Drivers Licence (excluding learner driver's licences). If not already in possession, a NSW Drivers Licence must be obtained within 3 months of appointment.
