About the Hospital:

North Canberra Hospital (formerly Calvary Public Hospital Bruce) and Clare Holland House are now run and operated by Canberra Health Services (CHS)

This is a significant milestone as the ACT Government moves towards delivering a new billion-dollar hospital on Canberra’s Northside.

The current North Canberra Hospital is a level 4 hospital that provides a range of acute and sub-acute services including community based care to the residents of the northside of Canberra and Southern NSW. North Canberra Hospital (NCH) is a 270 public hospital located in Canberra’s expanding northside. North Canberra Hospital operates a 24 hour Emergency Department. Inpatient services include general medicine, surgery, maternity, mental health and critical care.

Other service modalities include day surgery, specialist outpatient clinics, Hospital in the Home and the Geriatric Rapid Acute Care Evaluation service that reaches into aged care facilities across the ACT.

The new Northside Hospital will be built on the existing Calvary Hospital campus in Bruce. It will be a modern, state-of-the-art hospital for patients, visitors and its workforce and will provide more beds and increased services. Until then, it's business as usual at the NCH, and we'll keep providing high-quality care to our patients and community.



About the role:

This role is key within the senior leadership team, actively contributing to the high level operational, governance, business and strategic leadership of NCH, actively facilitating a high performing culture.

As the Director Medical Services you will provide exceptional advice and support to the General Manager and the broader executive team. You understand that NCH’s success is your number one key performance indicator and you will take pride in providing a high level professional leadership for the medical profession.

Together with the General Manager and the broader Executive Team, you will maintain positive strong relationships with EDMS for CHS, the wider CHS Executive team, the ACT government and key stakeholders.

You will be focussed on assurance of compliance with professional standards, credentialing and code of practice, facilitating contemporary practice, models of care and performance guidance to achieve best practice. This position is responsible for all business, operational management and governance within their portfolio.

You will also drive a program of process improvement and change, introducing a strong operating cadence and performance mind set.

Duties

Provide strong, visible and professional leadership within NCH, by acting as a role model for the application of CHS values and actively fostering a culture which values continuing professional development and professional accountability

Working collaboratively and in partnership as a key member of the leadership team to support the business, operational, governance and strategic direction of NCH

Leading a culture of workforce engagement including strategies to support retention and professional development of the workforce

Lead the clinical workforce to enhance contemporary safe practice, innovative models of care and service growth

Ensure NCH meets its responsibilities to provide clinical experience, mentor support and professional development for pre and post graduate clinical education and the broader medical workforce

Ensure that Clinical Governance and quality/safety are embedded within everyday practice for all associated clinical professional

Governance and management of credentialing processes and scope of practice for medical practitioners in accordance with the role delineation of NCH and CHS

Facilitate a culture of ethics and research in accordance with other professional groups to progress innovation in clinical practice, teaching and service development/growth

Management of workforce recruitment and selection, professional development and performance management, workforce planning strategies

Lead a culture of workforce engagement including strategies to support retention and professional development of the workforce

Management and reporting of key performance indicators within target and initiate strategies to improve performance

Management and implementation of NCH, key priorities

Active participation and contribution by supporting operational, business and strategic priorities

Reporting, analysis and strategizing key result areas and improvement (financial, staffing within budget)

Compliance with relevant professional and service legislative and accreditation requirements

WHS compliance

Mandatory training compliance

Management of premium labour and non-productive labour parameters



About you:

Requirements/Qualifications:
Mandatory

Registered or eligible for unconditional registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

The successful applicant will need to be available for weekend and after-hours work.

CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.

Seasoned professional with a minimum of three years' experience at senior management level within the medical industry.

Current professional registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) in the relevant professional discipline.

Demonstrated senior level experience managing a large diverse workforce and resources to ensure efficiency.

Desirable

Tertiary qualifications in medical administration or working towards and/or other relevant business, health administration qualifications.

Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

Demonstrated commitment to clinical governance relevant to the practice of acute hospital medicine including but not limited to audits, research, education and training.
