Dietician - REDC

About this opportunity:

In 2024, the Hunter New England Local Health District is set to inaugurate the first-of-its-kind Residential Eating Disorders Centre (REDC) in New South Wales. Upon completion of construction, this centre will be situated in Charlestown, Lake Macquarie | Bahtabah Country. Currently, our temporary location is at the Mater Mental Health Centre in Waratah | Awabakal Country.

Charlestown, located 15km from Newcastle CBD, offers excellent community connectivity and transportation access, nestled within a natural bushland setting amidst residential areas.

This state-of-the-art facility, comprising 12 beds, is purpose-built to cater to individuals aged 16 and above with eating disorders, providing a homelike environment. Our proficient multidisciplinary team will administer an intensive program of personalised and group interventions, employing a rehabilitation framework. The interventions will emphasise specialised treatment for eating disorders while addressing psychosocial disruptions and enhancing overall quality of life.

The REDC will collaborate closely with existing specialized tertiary services, engaging a diverse array of stakeholders from both the public and private sectors within the Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) and across NSW.

About this role:

The role will ensure the nutrition and dietetics perspective is embedded into all aspects of service development and delivery. This will include:

  2. Oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of a therapeutic food service system. Working in collaboration with an experienced chef/food service team that compliments the eating disorder rehabilitation model of care.
  3. Providing support and supervision of less experienced REDC staff members and consultation/engagement with broader HNE MH Dietetic group.
