Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Holroyd and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region. What you'll be doing
To provide specialised Occupational Therapy services to the inpatient programme of the Westmead Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service.

This is an Occupational Therapy position within a specialised Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service which requires the incumbent to have high levels of clinical expertise and knowledge to enable her/him to provide effective occupational therapy services to patients with brain injuries and their families and the skills to work autonomously with minimal clinical supervision on a day-to-day basis. The senior clinician in this position requires advanced occupational therapy practice skills, advanced professional reasoning, reflection and problem solving skills, and advanced skills in applying independent professional knowledge and judgement when providing assessment and treatment to individual patients and their families, particularly given the complex and varied nature of the impact of brain injuries. High levels of initiative and self-direction are also required. Advanced skills are essential in gathering, analyzing and synthesizing evidence from research, patients, their families and other sources to provide high quality patient focused evidence based, goal focused, culturally sensitive treatment within a collaborative multi-professional team approach.
Contributions and informed decision making are also required for service development and its overall effective and efficient functioning.

Essential Requirement:

Qualifications: Recognised tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy and current AHPRA registration

Selection Criteria:

  1. Recognised tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy and current AHPRA registration.
  2. Eligibility for membership of OT Australia.
  3. Clinical expertise and knowledge in the specialty of ABI rehabilitation which includes cognitive functioning assessment and retraining, biomechanical management involving spasticity, wheelchair seating plus orthotics, assistive technology, complex home mods, discharge planning, attendant care and family training.
  4. Demonstrated high level communication skills within the multi-disciplinary team and with clients, families and external services.
  5. Advanced documentation skills for medical records, funding applications and report writing.
  6. Advanced clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  7. Experience in staff supervision and management
  8. Commitment to continuing education and continuous quality improvement & Current Drivers Licence valid within Australia.
