What you'll be doing

The purpose of this role is to provide a comprehensive specialised counselling and social work service for sexual Health and HIV clients of the Short Street service. This includes participation in clinics and the provision of counselling and case management to address psychosocial and social work advocacy issues as they relate to clients accessing the service.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.

A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.

In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

  1. Bachelor of Social Work and eligibility for membership of AASW.
  2. Previous extensive and demonstrated experience and interest in providing social work services in sexual health/HIV or related area.
  3. Demonstrated experience in advocacy for clients with complex psychosocial needs.
  4. Demonstrated ability to provide social work consultancy to a multidisciplinary team.
  5. Demonstrated experience in service development/evaluation and facilitating quality improvement activities.
  6. Experience in education of health professionals and/or community groups.
  7. Experience in counselling individuals and/or couples.
  8. Current NSW driver's licence (with a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
