Position Summary:
A vacancy exists in the above unit for a highly motivated Psychologist with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. Our progressive and innovative team offers development opportunities for our staff and a caring environment for the delivery of high-quality patient centred care. The successful applicant will work as part of the St Vincent’s Alcohol and Drug Service (ADS) to provide assessments and psychological therapies for clients and/or their families affected by alcohol and other drugs to both the inpatient (Gorman) and Outpatient ADS. This position will also be responsible for conducting psychological assessments, care planning, brief interventions and discharge planning to clients accessing the Service. The psychologist will lead in the effective running and management of the therapeutic group program. The incumbent will liaise with other health care professionals within St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and with external agencies relevant to the area of clinical allocation. The psychologist is responsible for ensuring that appropriate treatment strategies are conducted in consultation with consumers of the service, and that outcome measures are routinely gathered.

The Alcohol and Drug Service is committed to the provision of regular clinical supervision to all staff working directly with clients as part of their role in the organisation. Clinical supervision is considered to be an important part of an employee’s professional development.

Selection Criteria

  1. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia
  2. Relevant tertiary qualifications in psychology and full registration with APHRA as a Psychologist
  3. Demonstrated experience in assessment, evidence based psychological therapies, for example motivational interviewing and cognitive behaviour therapy, and group facilitation.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  5. Demonstrated effective time management skills and ability to prioritise competing workloads within a complex environment
  6. Understanding of harm reduction and strengths-based approaches in working with people affected with substance use.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with report writing and computer literacy
  8. Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds including culturally diverse backgrounds
