Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District. The position provides secondary and tertiary level consultations and management of patients with complex mental health conditions. There are comprehensive treatment programs and active research in Western Sydney Local Health District. The position is expected to provide medical input for the indigenous population with mental health issues. Successful applicants will be expected to take part in planning and service development as well as having an active role in training and supervision.

Applicants will work within a multi-disciplinary team managing patients in the general hospital and Emergency Department setting that present with common psychiatric presentation and assist medical and surgical colleagues with complex physical co-morbidity, co-morbid psychiatric conditions in the general hospital setting.

Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 6 months may be considered. If successful, the applicant may not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.

Essential Requirements for Appointment

1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the RANZCP or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award/ Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.

2. Sound clinical knowledge in Adult and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.

3. Advanced training certificate in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, are a Fellow completing the Certificate or equivalent experience in the sub-specialty.

Successful applicants may be offered a conjoint university appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the relevant University attached to each facility. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship and will be held only during the tenure of the Western Sydney Local Health District appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to the District for clinical matters

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

o Capacity to maintain personal integrity, tolerate stress and demonstrate resilience.

o Commitment to building relationships, leading, and developing others.

o Results and outcome focused.

· Commitment to good governance, achieving results and managing risks.

· Demonstrated commitment to Education, Training and Research, as applicable to the position.
