Quinquennial Visiting Medical Officer (11 positions)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above positions in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). These positions will be located at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals with the Department of Anaesthesia.

Successful applicants should be fully trained anaesthetists with subspecialty training involving at a minimum an appropriately recognised skill base by national or international societies. Overseas experience would be an advantage.

Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 6 months, may be considered. If successful, the applicant may not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.

Responsible for the provision of anaesthesia, pain, sedation and perioperative services, including research, patient care and undergraduate/postgraduate teaching. The Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) is also responsible for the maintenance of quality, of all aspects of their service delivery and the efficient use of resources within Blacktown Mount Druitt Hospital (BMDH).

Senior Medical Staff are expected to provide consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient and on call specialty services as determined and required by the facility.

Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Western Sydney Local Health District.

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997 and Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Sessional Contracts) Determination 2014.

Selection Criteria

· Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.

· Sound clinical knowledge in the practice of Anaesthesia, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.

· Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:

o High level interpersonal and communication skills.

o Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.

o Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.

· Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.

· Recent clinical experience in centre accredited for ANZCA fellowship trainees or equivalent.

· Maintenance of professional standards as per ANZCA Maintenance of Professional Standards.

· Participates in continuing professional development and peer review relevant to paediatric anaesthesia.
