The Position

Skilled Medical has a career opportunity for a staff specialist psychiatrist to undertake a permanent role within a psychiatrist emergency service.

 

Health Service

This psychiatric emergency service (PES) is co-located with the hospital's emergency department and provides services for people experiencing a mental health crisis, acute mental illness or disorder (first time presentation or recurrent/relapse).

The PES is a 24 hour, 7 day a week centre-based acute hospital inpatient service made up of Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre; PECC Assessment, PECC Beds Unit and Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) providing access and admission to four 22 bed acute mental health inpatient units: Newcastle Mental Health Unit (NMHU), Lake Macquarie Mental Health Unit (LMMHU), Mental Health Substance Use Unit (MHSUU) and Mental Health Unit for Older People (MHUOP).

Essential Criteria

Doctors must hold Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry and specialist registration with AHPRA.
