Purpose of Position
Responsible for planning, controlling and directing all activities of the Medical Records Department, ensuring the information required is available to assist in the achievement of outcomes that imporve the care provided to patients.
Degree or equivalent in Health Information Management, with eligibility for full membership of HIMAA, or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated experience in managing Medical Record Departments
Knowledge and understanding of definitions and information required by the Ministry of Health and the National Data Dictionary
Previous demonstrable experience in staff management and high-level written and oral communication skills
Experience in the development and management of computerised information systems, advanced computer skills and the working knowledge of PAS and/or eMR systems
Proven knowledge of casemix and its relevance to service provision
Demonstrated ability to apply privacy code of practice and knowledge of medicolegal requirements for release of information
Proven experience in policy development and ability to develop and monitor departmental budgets
