The Day Surgery Unit provides high-quality, patient-centred care across the entire surgical continuum—from pre-admission to post-discharge follow-up. The unit focuses on excellence through staff and patient education, multidisciplinary collaboration, community engagement, innovation, and feedback, all within allocated resources.
Services include a pre-admission clinic, day-of-surgery admissions, second-stage “day only” recovery, extended day surgery, and endoscopy. Staff gain exposure to a variety of clinical settings and support a wide range of diagnostic and interventional procedures such as colonoscopy, gastroscopy, bronchoscopy, and ERCP.
This placement is a ward-based role in the Extended Day Surgery Unit, involving 24/7 rotating shifts (earlies, lates, and nights), with flexibility to be pooled to other wards if required.
MANDATORY CERTIFICATES:
- BLS
- Emergency Triage Education Kit (ETEK)
- Manual and patient handling
- Infection control
- Aggressive behaviour management
- Medications management including QPHS (Drugs and Poisons)
- Updated immunisation & serology evidence
*Additional mandatory training may be requested by the health service*
