Clinical Nurse Consultant/Specialist

Provide specialist Alcohol and Other Drugs Service interventions to consumers in the Emergency Department and Mental Health wards through making recommendations for treatment with the support of the Consultation Liaison medical staff.

The Role

An opportunity has become available for two Clinical Nurses (Alcohol and Other Drugs Service) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 12 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will

  • Assess Alcohol and Other Drugs and mental health risks within an acute environment
  • Have an understanding of hospital processes and network to improve patient journey outcomes
  • Work proactively with hospital staff to reduce stigma associated with substance misuse
  • Participate in health promotion activities and all compulsory in-services

About you

To be successful in this position you will require:

  • A Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent
  • Registration with the Nursing Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Credentialed through the College of Mental Health Nurses (or be prepared to work towards a credential in Mental Health Nursing)
  • A graduate certificate or greater within a relevant specialty area is highly desirable
  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
  • Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary

  • Permanent part time and temporary part time (one permanent part time, 60.8 hours per fortnight and one temporary part time, 60.8 hours per fortnight, 6 months with the possibility of extension)
  • Base salary ranging from $54.44 - $58.30 per hour

The Gold Coast AODS service is a specialist service that provides a range of treatments for the severe and complex drug and alcohol individuals and families. Gold Coast Health AOD service provides a range of community based AOD programs and a Consultation Liaison service.
