Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the Visiting Medical Officer position in the Western Sydney Local Health District. This position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within the Department of Transplant Surgery.
The renal and transplantation unit at Westmead Hospital provides tertiary level services to the Western Sydney community in renal access surgery (peritoneal and vascular access), kidney transplantation, and also pancreas transplantation (national service).
Successful applicants will be fully trained in kidney and pancreas transplantation and multi-organ retrieval, and should also be trained in access surgery (peritoneal and vascular).
Furthermore, applicants should also have a strong background in research, and be willing to pursue ongoing research and teaching whilst working in the Department.
Applicants must have Australian Fellowship/Specialist Registration.
Essential Requirements for Appointment
1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
2. Sound clinical knowledge in Transplant and General Surgery as demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position
3. Training in Kidney and Pancreas transplant surgery, multi-organ retrieval surgery, and access surgery (peritoneal and vascular access).
Selection Criteria
1. Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the specialty - FRACS in General Surgery
2. Evidence of additional qualifications, skills and/or experience required for specific scope of practice for the specialty - Subspecialist training in Transplant Surgery.
3. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
· Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
· Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships.
· Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice.
· Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality.
4. Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system.
5. Demonstrated aptitude for clinical leadership which is evidenced by:
· Systems thinking and risk-taking aptitude.
· commitment to self -care and personal development.
· Capacity to maintain personal integrity, tolerate stress and demonstrate resilience.
· Commitment to building relationships, leading, and developing others.
· Results and outcome focused
