About the Role

Monash Health is seeking a dedicated Unit Director (0.5 EFT) & Consultant Psychiatrist (0.5 EFT) to lead Youth Mental Health Services within our Mental Health Program. This pivotal role provides clinical, professional, and academic leadership, ensuring high-quality care while positioning Monash Health as a learning institution.

Reporting to the Service Director, you will be responsible for the effective management, strategic direction, and clinical governance of Youth Services. As a key member of Monash Health’s Senior Management Team, you will contribute to advancing our vision, purpose, and values.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consultant-led care, ensuring high-quality psychiatric services.
  • Lead clinical governance and service improvement initiatives.
  • Offer clinical leadership, supporting medical colleagues in patient care.
  • Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, fostering a supportive team culture.
  • Drive research, education, training, and supervision in Youth Mental Health.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance service delivery.

Your Impact

  • Deliver high-quality, patient-centered mental health services.
  • Lead continuous quality improvement and workforce innovation.
  • Ensure compliance with National Safety & Quality Health Service (NSQHS) standards.
  • Manage resources effectively within the allocated budget.
  • Promote a safe and positive workplace culture.

Key Relationships

Internal: Senior Medical Staff, Registrars, Nursing & Allied Health teams, Research Staff.
External: Relevant industry and academic partners as required.

 

About You

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP).
  • AHPRA registration as a specialist psychiatrist.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist.
  • Working with Children Check.

Desirable

  • PhD or equivalent research experience.
  • Experience in ECT and credentialing (training available if required).
