What you'll be doing

The Special Needs Department of Westmead’s Dental Hospital (WSLHD Oral Health Services) is the only state-wide referral service for specialist-lead Special Needs Dentistry, providing dental treatment to patients with a broad variety of physical and intellectual disabilities, along with complex medical issues who find it difficult to access mainstream dental services, as well as those not medically stable enough to receive treatment in the community setting. The successful applicant will be exposed to a broad scope of hospital-based dentistry, and as a Level 3 Dental Officer, will be required to demonstrate an advanced level of clinical, diagnostic and client management skills, albeit in a consultant-lead setting. In addition, the applicant will be required to support the Department with additional administration duties and be required to facilitate inpatient care, in particular, ward visits and facilitating inpatient transfers.

Essential Criteria:

· Qualification: Dental qualification registrable with the Dental Board of Australia

· Registration: Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Dentist

2. Highly advanced skills in the management of patients with complex medical conditions and complex dental needs.

3. Advanced independent judgement and problem solving skills in a clinical situation.

4. Excellent oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with a range of individuals including the general public.

5. A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to a preventative / population health approach to patient care.

6. A demonstrated ability to work independently, and within a large team exercising leadership and mentoring skills, as well as under the direction of clinical specialists.

7. A demonstrated commitment to continuing education.
