Purpose of Position

Provide first-line medical care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department of the Hospital, including assessment, investigation, treatment and referral for ongoing non-inpatient care or, on consultation with consultant specialists, admission/transfer for inpatient care. Selection Criteria

Previous experience in and the ability to recognise the critically ill patient (from infants to the elderly)

A minimum of 3 years proven post graduate experience relevant to working in the emergency department and acute medicine, including an aggregate of at least six months work in emergency departments at a non-junior level. There should be no more than a two (2) year break between clinical appointments

Knowledge of current treatments & modern approaches in assessment and management of the broad range of acute conditions that present to an emergency department, in the whole population (infants to the elderly)

Undergraduate or Postgraduate qualifications in medicine and surgery recognised by the Australian Medical Council (including a pass of the AMC Multiple Choice Questionnaire)

Current Registration with the Medical Board of Australia or eligible for registration with the Medical Board

Sound knowledge of and commitment to Quality Management, Ethnic practices and Cultural Diversity

Competence in performing the range of minor urgent procedures commonly undertaken in the emergency department, such as:
* Uncomplicated intubation (unconscious patient – adult and paediatric)
* Manual ventilation (bag ventimask/endotracheal tube/jet insufflation)
* Needle cricothyrotomy
* Direct
