Correctional settings provide a unique opportunity to address a range of health issues and to meet the health needs of a population that is normally hard to reach.
We currently have an exciting opportunity available for an experienced Doctor. The role on offer is for a Part Time Medical Officer (hours negotiable close to full-time hours available) to work in our correctional healthcare centres amongst our Metropolitan and Rural regions in Melbourne, Victoria. These facilities may include the Metropolitan Remand Centre, Marngoneet Correction Centre and Karreenga Prison.
The Medical Officer is primarily responsible for the provision and supervision of medical care to prisoners, providing medical input to clinically related matters and the evaluation of medical programs and services.
Requirements for the role include a mature outlook and sound interpersonal skills that enable appropriate communication with patients in a correctional environment; the ability to provide appropriate diagnosis and treatment, and the ability to work collaboratively with nursing staff, under minimal supervision.
To be considered for this opportunity you must demonstrate:
- Minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience,
- Evidence of working in environments with minimal supervision
- Fully registered by AHPRA
Whilst experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous it is not mandatory. We are interested in hearing from all interested medical practitioners as we are happy to support training for the right individuals:
- experience in mental health, sexual health, drug and alcohol, emergency care and general practice
- experience with Hepatitis C treatment
- experience with and training in Opioid Substitution Therapies
- section 100 Prescriber (HIV)
- Methadone Prescriber
