- Minimum of one hour a fortnight visits
Having good social connections are essential for all aspects of health, especially as we age. Red Cross supports older people who live alone or who have few social connections or people with disability to help improve their wellbeing.
Red Cross Community Visitors Scheme match people who don’t receive regular social visits with a caring and friendly volunteer. Community Visiting can include home or Aged Care Facility visits, social outings, group activities and peer support.
Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) volunteers make regular social visits and provide companionship and friendship to residents of aged care facilities or older people living in their own homes. Volunteers are matched one-on-one with a participant or run a small group in Aged Care Facilities with residents who have common interests.
As a Community Visitor you will be broadening your skills and make a connection that can enrich your life as well as the life of the person you visit. The visits are relaxed and social in nature, where you might chat together, reminisce, listen to music or play card games.
Please note that Red Cross does allow children under the age of 18 to volunteer, however with consideration for Red Cross Child Safe Policy in order to ensure our younger volunteers are safe where they are not under the supervision of Australian Red Cross Staff, they need to be supervised by a parent or Guardian over the age of 18.
What this means for volunteering as a Community Visitor is that a parent or guardian would need to in essence become a volunteer as-well.
As a Community Visitors Scheme volunteer, you’ll brighten the life of someone suffering vulnerability by offering them company and friendship. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World’s largest humanitarian network.
