Occupational Therapist

Purpose of Position

This district wide position aims to address complex health and social needs to improve family wellbeing and health, educational and social outcomes for children, in families where a parent has a mental illness. To achieve this aim, the COPMI Coordinator: Provides leadership for the mental health service in meeting national and state mental health policy and strategic requirements Develops, leads and evaluates initiatives to build the capacity of the mental health service to provide family focused services that are responsive to the needs of children Promotes prevention, early identification and early intervention for children of parents with a mental illness Develops inter-agency partnerships to promote a wrap-around approach to family focused interventions and meeting the needs of children.

Selection Criteria

Recognised tertiary qualifications in occupational therapy, psychology or social work with current AHPRA registration (occupational therapy, psychology) or eligibility for membership of AASW (social work). Post-graduate qualification in mental health or related field.

At least 3 years full time equivalent experience working in mental health with demonstrated advanced practice skills in this field.

Commitment to champion, educate and lead multidisciplinary care to improve consumers’ outcomes while working effectively as part of a team.

Demonstrated advanced reasoning, ability to exercise independent professional judgement, problem solving and decision making, in line with best practice in family focused mental health.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with consumers, carers and a diverse range of health care providers.

Demonstrated commitment to clinical practice development, including a sound understanding of quality improvement methods and techniques.

Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision maintaining involvement within the wider multidisciplinary team.

Current unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence (P1 or above) and willingness to use same for work purposes.
