Purpose of Position

Transfer patients safely throughout the organisation including infectious risk patients and patients who arrive by helicopter Attend to dirty linen Transport patient related items, equipment & medical files Transport deceased persons from Wards / Areas to the Mortuary Transport specimens, including infectious risk specimens as required Move furniture as required (wheel based items) Undertake tasks that compliment patient care - obtain needed equipment, deliver patient specimens and documentation. Assist nursing staff in lifting and positioning patients Assist nursing staff in pacifying and controlling refractory patients Maintain and clean all equipment used for transfer of patients Assemble traction beds Connect fittings to gas cylinders when delivered to wards/units Assist nursing staff with the care of patients and report perceived changes in the patients condition / mental status to nursing personnel. Maintain patient confidentiality. Assist the patient flow team in ensuring the timely and efficient transfer and movement of patients throughout the hospital. Ensure equipment accessed and utilised is in good working order reporting defects in a timely fashion to facilitate safe patient care. Respond to request by nursing staff, particularly in the case of an emergency or disaster. To maintain courtesy at all times with all patients, visitors and staff. To inform the Registered Nurse of any changes in the patient condition in the carrying out of the above duties. Other related duties as directed. Collect patient pharmacy items and other care requirements delivering them to the required destination in a timely fashion. Assist with patient care, lifting and moving of patients as requested by nursing team leader/Nurse Unit Manager. Daily maintenance of Muster Room. Allocation and coordination of wardsperson’s daily duties and meal breaks if allocated as Muster room Coordinator. Operation of the telephone and two-way radio base station if allocated as Muster room Coordinator. Completion of daily log sheets if allocated as Muster room Coordinator. Undertake other tasks from time to time as directed by the Director Nursing and Midwifery to facilitate and maintain patient care and safety. Adhere to policy and wardsperson business rules.

Selection Criteria

Demonstrated ability to work effectively within the requirements of a role and under limited direction

Ability to work Mornings, Evenings & Night duty shifts, across a 7 day week roster.

Demonstrated ability to use all available information to effectively prioritise workloads

Be able to meet the physical demands of the position as listed in the physical requirements in the position description.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a proven commitment to customer service

Demonstrated ability to use problem solving skills to resolve challenges


Demonstrated understanding of work health and safety in an organisational setting
