Broken Hill Midwifery Group Practice (BHMGP): CMS Grade 2

Purpose of Position

This is a permanent position to deliver high quality known midwifery care within a Caseload Midwifery Group Practice model at Broken Hill Base Hospital.   The applicant will directly assist the Midwifery Unit Manager (MUM) to coordinate a team of 10 Midwives working in the BHMGP under an Annualised Salary Agreement, as part of an on call roster.   The MGP CMS 2 collaborates with the Core CMS2, BHMGP and Core Midwives, medical staff and other relevant stakeholders to monitor and improve woman’s care and birth outcomes.   The MGP CMS 2 has a reduced clinical caseload (10 women) to allow for administrative duties.   The MGP CMS 2 will function in the role of expert clinician and mentor, while overseeing daily workforce processes of the BHMGP. The CMS 2 will provide on-call clinical backup to the BHMGP, limited to two extra on-call days a roster before review by the MUM.

Selection Criteria

Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Demonstrates competency and proficiency as a midwife in antenatal, labour, birth and postnatal care, lactation and infant feeding consistent with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council National Competency Standards for the Midwife (2006).

Minimum 4 years full time equivalent postgraduate experience.

Demonstrated commitment to the philosophy of midwifery Continuity of Care, and a willingness to learn and oversee its daily safe operation. As well as uphold the practice of appropriate consultation and referral, within a social, holistic and primary health care framework.

Ability to work at 1.0 FTE under flexible hours within a Midwifery Group Practice model of care.

Demonstrated skills in clinical leadership within a health care setting with experience supervising Midwives, TTPM and Student Midwives.

Highly developed written and oral communication skills, strong organisational skills and effective problem solving abilities, including conflict resolution.

Must hold an unrestricted current NSW drivers’ license.
